Grab this convenient and efficient Herb and Salad Chopper when the recipe calls for chopped leafy greens or herbs.  Two ultra-sharp, surgical stainless steel blades are fixed into the handle and retract into the unit for storage.  Three simple steps to activate the blades. Pull the release tab out, then push down on the tab until the blades appear, finally release tab on the other end.  Now the mezzaluna is ready for use.  The double blade provides efficient and effortless mincing or chopping by rocking the unit back and forth over the greens. Super sharp blades easily chop fresh leafy greens, and herbs and mince onions, garlic, chocolate, and nuts.  The handle is shaped to fit the curve of your hand and has a soft-touch grip making it comfortable to use.

About the SwiftStrip

Crafted in durable stainless steel, the SwiftStrip is a uniquely curved tool that combines holes to easily strip off the leaves of herbs and leafy greens with a razor-sharp, beveled edge blade at the end for trimming stems. The SwiftStrip offers a mixture of different size holes to make it a cinch prepping all types of herbs and “superfood” leafy greens. The tool’s largest hole is specifically sized to accommodate trendy and delicious Tuscan kale (also known as lacinato, dinosaur and palm tree kale).  A mixture of different size holes makes it easy to use the SwiftStrip to prep a wide range of herbs and other types of leafy greens. What herbs should you use with the SwiftStrip?

In testing, we found it strips, thyme, rosemary, cilantro, basil, and other small stemmed herbs. 

Why should I de-stem herbs or kale?

  • Some herbs, like thyme, rosemary, oregano, tarragon, and marjoram have tough woody stems.  These stems change the texture of the dish, and if used in soups should be strained out.
  • For garnishing, using the leaves without stems guarantees the best presentation.
  • When making Kale chips, or sautéing Kale, the stems take longer to cook leaving tough or chewy bites in the dish. 
Are stems edible? 
  • Yes, most stems are edible and can add flavor, so you don't have to throw them away, instead, put them into a plastic bag and freeze with other vegetable left-overs to make a vegetable stock.
  • Use the stems of herbs inside of a chicken when roasting.
  • Stems can be used when making herb salts.

Use and Care

Herb and Salad Chopper:

  • Top-rack dishwasher safe - Clean with blades out (not retracted)
  • We recommend rinsing the blades with warm water immediately after each use. Remove trapped particles in between the blades whenever possible. To remove trapped particles in between the blades soak in warm water and then use a cleaning brush to remove particles. Always exercise caution when cleaning sharp objects.
